  1. Temu. Although launched in 2022, the Chinese mega-discount marketplace app has made huge strides in marketplace share and awareness this year.

  2. Amazon’s not-so-secret plan to create a new AI-based search function on its marketplace.

  3. 84%. Cart abandonment for mobile purchases (84%) is noticeably higher than desktops (72%). Brands need mobile-friendly listings to convert more sales.

  4. Two-thirds. According to GFK, two-thirds of UK consumers intended to renovate or decorate their home in 2023.

  5. 64%. Almost two in three health and beauty customers will consider the ingredients, distribution, packaging and containers of products when buying.

  6. Vinted. Charges no commission as the buyer pays a fee per purchase, not the seller.

  7. 11 July - the first day of Prime Day. Prime members purchased more than 375 million items worldwide. Make sure you prepare for next year’s Prime Day.

  8. False. Last year, almost half (48%) of Black Friday e-commerce sales were made via smartphone, but 2023 may well have surpassed it…

  9. TikTok Shop. Although not considered a ‘marketplace’, TikTok Shop already operates like a marketplace in many ways.

  10. According to the ‘Lipstick Index’, sales of beauty products rise when consumers are feeling the pinch as they look for inexpensive ways to treat themselves.
